We are seeking a Senior Wildlife Biologist to lead and deliver high-quality ecological surveys, assessments and monitoring programmes across a range of habitats and development projects. The role will involve designing survey methodologies, overseeing fieldwork, analysing ecological data and preparing clear, evidence-based technical reports. You will provide expert advice on protected and notable species, habitats, biodiversity enhancement and ecological risk, ensuring that recommendations are practical, proportionate and supported by current legislation and best practice.
You will manage projects from inception through to completion, including scoping, programming, budgeting, quality assurance and client liaison. Responsibilities will include mentoring and supporting junior ecologists, coordinating field teams and subcontractors, reviewing survey outputs, contributing to licence applications and advising on mitigation, compensation and habitat creation measures. You will also represent the team at meetings with clients, landowners, regulators and other stakeholders, communicating complex ecological matters confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences. Occasional travel, early starts, evening work and overnight stays may be required to meet seasonal survey requirements.
The successful candidate will have a degree in ecology, zoology, environmental science or a related discipline, substantial professional experience in wildlife consultancy or a comparable conservation role, and a strong understanding of relevant UK wildlife legislation, planning policy and ecological guidance. Experience of protected species surveys, habitat assessment, biodiversity net gain, ecological impact assessment and project management is highly desirable. You should hold, or be eligible to obtain, any licences relevant to your specialism and be confident using standard ecological survey and data-analysis techniques. Excellent written and verbal communication, strong organisational skills, commercial awareness and a collaborative approach are essential. A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel are also required.
